Our History
One of our early Christmas concerts
Music teacher and choir specialist Bronwyn Hendy, with the support of the Sydney Welsh Choir, set up a Good Life Chorus as a dementia-friendly community choir in the Ryde area in 2017. Assistant Conductor Jemma and Accompanist Malcolm were founding members of the music team.
Mrs Hendy, who moved from Canberra in 2016, modelled the group on Canberra’s “Alchemy Chorus”. An ABC News report on “Alchemy Chorus” is available here. Funding support was given by the Australian National Choral Association and NSW Family and Community Services, through their “Sing Your Age” grants; and equipment was funded by Ability Links NSW, Uniting and the NSW Government.
Good Life Chorus has performed at a number of events in recent years, including Top Ryde Library’s Musical Morning Tea program and a Probus Group Christmas Lunch. We are a member of the Dementia Inclusive Choirs Network (https://www.dementiainclusivechoirs.com/) which aims to promote choir singing as an accessible and inclusive social activity for people with dementia.
